Hoppy Update – Meeting with 2005 Ashes Hero

“…Hampshire CCC are knocking about in Cape Town. They playing against the Cobras and Western Province. Was having a chat with Simon Jones today in the gym at WP.”

Stoke win enjoyable friendly against Sheen Park

A fine batting display including 3 half centuries set up a victory for Stoke on saturday. Batting first Stoke lost Gavin Gresse early, lbw to the accurate Gibbons before a century partnership between Alistair McMillan and Jack Raimondo put the home side in charge, Jacko passing 4,000 career runs in the process. Both and Ali and Jacko reached fluent 50s in the same over and the century stand came shortly afterwards. Having pushed the score to 150, Jacko called Ali through for an ambitious 2, but the latter was well short of his ground following an accurate throw and was run out for 64. Read more

Accommodation needed for Ian Hopton

We need to help Ian find somewhere to live this season. It would be great if we can find a member who would be prepared to let Ian have a room for a nominal rent for 4 months.

Ian was a regular in the Stoke sides last year, also playing a great part in our run to the Surrey Championship T20 Final; and returned to South Africa in November to play cricket for Western Province as their overseas player. Read more

stoke victorious again

Stoke’s Sunday XI travelled to Twickenham and repeated their 2008 victory.

The hosts chose to bat but Mike Carty, (3-24), late call up from the Guildford club scene Jack Raimondo, (2-31), and Peter Phipps, (2-24), reduced them to 71 for 7.

M.Bendelow added respectability to the score with 35 before becoming one of two victims for the mercurial Roy Johns, (2-11) – Johns’ wickets sandwiched a wicket for Sandy Henderson. Read more

AGM Highlights

All change at this year’s AGM as we voted in new captains for the League sides, two new Club Trustees and David Pappin formally stood down as Club President after 25 years’ service.

Siddhartha Lahiri and Matt Gottschalk, (pictured right and below respectively), take over from Andy Page and Malcolm Dickson as captains of the League sides – Andy retains a place on the New Committee with a role that will include the development of the ground and the clubhouse. Andy will also act as an adviser to the new captains to ensure a smooth handover in accordance with our Development Plan. Read more

2nd XI win over Farncombe

The 2nd XI continued their promotion push with a 46 run victory – with bonus point – over Farncombe at the Rec.

Stoke skipper Malcolm Dickson was an early casualty with just an extra on the board; but substance was given to total with century partnerships, (both exactly 100), between Steve Wade, (39), and Simon Engelen; for the second wicket; then Engelen and Matt Gottschalk for the fourth. Read more
