Chairman Drew Patrick writes:

Dear Members

Our season to date is a case of ‘so far so good.’ After 7 matches in the Surrey Championship, our 1ss and 2s are top of their respective tables in Division 5, but there is still a long way to go, with 11 matches to be played by each team between 27th June and 4th September.

Sunday 20th June – League match v Epsom – Won by 225 runs

(Match report from Jeremy Muir) Stoke beat Epsom by 225 runs, (415 to their 190.) A faultless performance from our boys captained by Tom E, although Epsom fielded a very young and inexperienced side. We lost no wickets to their loss of 13. Four from Ben, (three in one over), three from Charlie, (in one over with a maiden in his other), 2 to Alfie with one each from Ollie, Freddy, Tom and Oscar (who also took a couple of the catches at square leg).  Extras were kept to a creditable 24. Batting partnerships were Freddy & Tom 61, Oscar & Charlie 61, Ollie & Jeffrey 41 and Ben & Alfie 52, (Ben hitting two sixes.) Highest individual score Ben with 34, followed by Oscar on 27 and Freddy on 22. Man of the Match : Ben

Surrey Trust League Player of the Season

After the team photo was taken on Sunday there was an additional presentation made to Will Gudgeon who was chosen as our Surrey Trust League Player of the Year for the 2009 season.

The winners from each club are presented with a signed bat kindly donated by Surrey CCC, and a Surrey Pro usually does the honours on Finals Day. Sadly Will was unable to attend last year so he received his signed bat from Ralphie, (not a Surrey Pro), after Sunday’s match.

6 wins in a row for Stoke 2s as Pagie leads us home

Surrey Championship Division 5

Cranleigh 2nd XI 205 for 9

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 206 for 4

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI, (13 points), beat Cranleigh 2nd XI by 6 wickets

Whilst the day had started quite brightly (weather wise) it clouded over at lunchtime and as the day wore on we got slowly colder. Still, the conditions were good for swing bowling and having won the toss Matt asked Cranleigh to bat first. A great start for Stoke saw the visitors 12-2 early on. Crispy was fit to bowl again and got the ball moving early on, taking a wicket in his 3rd over. Shortly afterwards the dangerous Greaves tried to take a run off a misfield, only to see Ali Mac recover the ball and throw down the stumps from mid off.

Friday 11th June – Gladys Chitty match v Esher – Lost by 6 runs

Esher elected to field first, with Stoke reaching 247 in their 16 overs.  Olly top scored with ten with everyone else chipping in a few.  The outfield was large and slow making 4s difficult to come by, (only two scored in the whole match.)  On a positive note, Stoke only lost 3 wickets in their 16 overs compared to Esher’s five.  There’s still work to be done on running between the wickets. The bowling and fielding was much improved from the last game, with some strong bowling figures from Nicholas, Rory, Olly, and a great first over by Matthew. There was also some great keeping from Zach.

Colts Fund Raising Night – Friday 9th July 2010

The Colts Fundraising Night is fast approaching – FRIDAY 9TH JULY starting at 5pm!!  This event is for all colts and their families.

We need to raise £3,000 in the balance of this year so that we can install an artificial wicket at the top of the square.  As many of you will appreciate, having this facility will make a huge difference to the colts, as it will enable them to play more games at SDCC.
