‘Winning Draw’ to Merrow

Having won the toss for the first time this season Will elected to field for the first of the 9 declaration games. The now usual new ball pairing of Jono and Po were in operation, but this time it was Po who did the early damage, clean bowling Dyer with one that swung through the gate and then tempting Teale to loft the ball towards mid on where Dom took a good diving catch. ‘Winning Draw’ to Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI

Half centuries from Steve Wade and Jase Earl helped Stoke’s second string recover from a precarious position, (88 for 6 at drinks), to post a total of 228. On a benign pitch, Gary Harkett, (4 for 73), and skipper Andy Page, (2 for 22), led the bowling effort; but the sides had to settle for a draw with the visitors well short of the ‘Winning Draw’ target. Missing Sunday Result from 2000 found

The Ginger Prince called SDCC on Monday to advise that one of Wisley Southside’s players had left his kit bag at HQ after Sunday’s match, so it was moved to a safer place ready for collection at Wednesday’s club nets practice.

The visitors kept score in an old pre-merger Southside CC book that was also left on the bar. It contained a handful of results back to the 2000 season; one of them was against Stoke, which we didn’t have, but have now added to the records.
