Hoppy and Hiken – Update

Ian Hopton’s domestic competition commenced last week and he has done well with bat and ball according to the, (unofficial), Western Province site:

“The 2-day league has officially kicked off, with 4 of the 5 sides playing home at the moment. Matthew King’s WPCC played against a very strong Police outfit on the YMCA. They batted first and put on a competitive 227, with captain King getting to 40, with support from Glen Huddy on 30 and an all round performance from Ian Hopton who scored 33 not out and picked up 4-27 in his bowling stint. New boy Joe Brawne also picked up 3 wickets on debut. WPCC will go into day two with a 47 run lead after bowling out the Police group for 180.”

Quiz Night – Friday 19th November 2010

Dear Members!

Our traditional Autumn quiz night will take place our clubhouse on Friday 19th November 2010. Peter Andrew has very graciously agreed, (again!), to be our quizmaster and will set questions from the usual wide range of subjects and events. The bar will be open from 7.30pm and the quiz will commence at 8.00pm. We will break for a fish and chip supper at approximately 9.00pm and we should be finished by 10.30pm.

Awards Night Review

A good attendance at HQ last Saturday for the Annual Awards, despite the weather and other commitments, eg. overseas cricket commitments, university, dinners, holidays…

Fresh from celebrating their Championship at the Brit Oval the previous evening, the 2nd XI carried on and MC Drew Patrick made another formal presentation of the shield to 2nd XI captain Matt Gottschalk. Whilst on his feet, Matt was also given back the Australia Cup for the best overall contribution to the 2nd XI, having won the player’s vote last year as well.

Great North Run

Firstly a thank you to Mr.Chairman and Mrs.Secretary – well, two actually – for allowing me to advertise this, and secondly for their kind donation.

People may have seen my significant other/cricket widow Julie pounding the streets in preparation for her first go at the Great North Run, often running home from HQ leaving me to Surrey Championship & Trust League commitments and net practice.
