Richie Parrett reports…

After a wet start to the day Stoke proceeded to play Claygate as a part of their annual cricket week. Gavin Greese won the toss for Stoke and elected to bat, after waiting 20 minutes to get bails and a ball Sam Bradford-Smith and Adam Cooke started the innings off on a sticky pitch.

Under 15s lose narrowly in Final

Adam Cooke writes about last Sunday’s West Surrey Youth Cricket League Under 15s Final:

It was one hell of an exciting match between the top two teams in the area, not to mention an intriguing local derby. It was a match where the highlights of it would have been the whole thing. Words can’t do the game justice so I’ll give the figures and let you add the dialogue.

Stoke 2s stay top with win against Farncombe

Jonny Lawes led Stoke D’Abernon to an 8th victory of the league season.

After acting skipper Falcon won the toss and chose to field; Bondi took a wicket in each of his first 2 overs; the first a simple catch lobbed up to Tufty, the second a ball which beat the batsman for pace as he could only play it on to his off stump. Po was back from injury in his usual place at the railway end, but with a shorter run up and even less pace than we’re used to and nearly had an early wicket too when visiting skipper Paterson was put down off the edge of his bat. Not long afterwards Bondi had a third, thanks to an edge held and Stoke were well in control with Farncombe on 26-3.

Last ball defeat damages 1st XI promotion hopes

Surrey Championship Division 5

Farncombe 289 for 8 dec (51 overs)

Stoke D’Abernon 221 all out (49 overs)

Farncombe, (13 points), beat Stoke D’Abernon, (0 points), by 68 runs

An alert piece of fielding off the last ball of the match saw Farncombe claim a deserved victory to keep themselves in the promotion hunt, and at the same time dent Stoke’s own ambitions of playing Division 4 cricket in 2011. There are still seven games to play but in reality all seven must now be won to acquire the required points total.

More news from Johnny Lawes and his Management Team…

Saturday 3rd July – Gladys Chitty League v Teddington

Lost by 36 runs.

Many thanks to Duncan Stewart for running this and his report is as follows:

Having lost the toss, Stoke were put in to bat, and got off to a great start through Jack and Matthew, Jack in particular hitting some lovely fours, and ultimately top scoring.  Zach and Harry capitalised on this with a great second pair partnership, with Harry also hitting three fours.  A mid-innings collapse of sorts saw 5 cheap wickets go down pegging back our score, although a couple of good shots from Rory and Thomas got us to a respectable 264 against some pretty accurate bowling from bowlers who definitely didn’t look Under 8 – I will be asking for birth certificate proof next time!
