Having been asked to bat first there were quick runs for Malcolm Dickson – who passed 5,000 Stoke runs – on his way to 37, and Jonny Lawes who got a typically quick 30 before finding ourselves 108-5 in the 20th over.

There will be no Monday or Thursday training at Parkside next week during half term. The sessions on Sunday morning are to continue at Stoke for the U8s and the U9s on Sunday 30th May and Sunday 6th June. The Parkside Academy ten week training course resumes as normal the week commencing Monday 7th June and there are 6 weeks remaining for those members paid up for the course.

Ladies Latest – Another win for Stoke and more Surrey 1st XI selections

At the weekend the Stoke Ladies won their second match of the season against Ashford by 109 runs. Claire Trafford hit an unbeaten 120 and Rosie McEwing led the bowling effort with 3 for 25.

Sunday XI lose by 42 runs at Kingston

After dismissing their hosts for 161 the Sunday XI made a promising start in reply but collapsed from 49 for no wicket to 119 all out.

Alex Bond led the Stoke bowling effort with 3 for 32 from ten overs. Rod Thomson, (2-15), took his first wickets for the club and there was a wicket each for Richie Parrett, Sam Bradford-Smith and 1st XI keeper batsman Tom Frost who would have taken notes on the stumping off his bowling by Rick Mustill!

Under 17s begin season with victory by 25 runs over Leatherhead

What a great day for English cricket! England win the T20 World Cup in Barbados and the Under 17s start their season with a win!

Sunday morning at Stoke HQ was slightly different from the weather in Barbados! Grey, overcast, cold, very occasional burst of sunshine and a good attempt at rain…a fairly typical English summer’s day! A little local knowledge helped Stoke enormously. Thanks to the groundsman, who advised that the wicket was a slow, low bouncing track that would take spin. He advised batting first to take maximum advantage of the higher bounce that the new ball would offer. John lost the toss and Leatherhead put Stoke in to bat.
