Sometimes phrases like “take the positives” or “many positives in defeat” are mis-used, often to soften the blow of a defeat or a poor performance, or end up glossing over technical or performance issues; but Stoke’s 2015 Trust League vintage looks like it will contain many future first team players, and a bit of fine-tuning and ironing out the things that didn’t go quite so well from this opening match should be a straightforward task. Stoke won by 36 runs

More history made as Stoke played their first match in the new ECB Under 19 T20 Blast, and a fine all-round performance saw a comprehensive 36 run win. Read more

Positives aplenty despite Trust League defeat at Banstead

A new era for the Stoke Academy as five new debutants all impressed but the team fell to a six wicket defeat to a more experienced and stronger opposition. Read more

Academy fail to Qualify for latter stages of the Trust League

Stoke’s Academy fell to a defeat at Reigate Priory to miss out on qualification for the latter stages of the Surrey Trust League.

A couple of things needed to go Stoke’s way to ensure qualification.

(1)  Win!

(2) End the campaign with a higher average runs per wicket, (head to head or net run rate were not deciders, thankfully), than Worcester Park or Valley End. Read more

Stoke batted first on a slow wicket.

It was difficult to get the ball off the square and a total of 209 looked pretty competitive. Dan Douthwaite scored a brisk 46, Lian Meyer a cautious but necessary 30, (in the context of the game.) Jack Raimondo came in at No.8 with six overs to go and scored a rapid fire 26, ably supported by Hugo Solway with 18. Read more

Baz bags 4-for but Academy lose control of zone at Worcester Park

Stoke’s Academy lost control of their own destiny after suffering a four wicket defeat at Worcester Park.

After being inserted, Stoke lost Dan Douthwaite and Tom Abraham early; but James Trower got the board moving with a run a ball 39. Read more

Academy pay the price at Valley End

Stoke’s Academy paid the price for not batting their overs and lost their unbeaten record at Valley End.

James Trower cracked an even 50; but only James Corbishley, (25), and a typical cleanly struck 31 from Michael Dolman were the only other scores of note as Stoke were shot out for 181 in just 34.5 overs. Read more
