Having been asked to bat first there were quick runs for Malcolm Dickson – who passed 5,000 Stoke runs – on his way to 37, and Jonny Lawes who got a typically quick 30 before finding ourselves 108-5 in the 20th over. Read more

One glance at the scorecard will tell you that 10 players were bowled during the course of this game. Was this due to the accuracy of the bowling or more down to a succession of dropped catches during both innings? I think a bit of both. Read more

Traditionally Stoke and Hampton Wick have been very closely matched on the field and this game was no exception. In last year’s league opener Stoke chased down 242 with just 3 balls to spare, and despite fewer than half as many runs being scored, yesterday’s game was no less tense. Read more

2nd XI defeated by Old Ruts 2s

Matt Gottschalk took charge of the 2nd XI for the first time and his side put up a spirited performance against the Old Ruts despite missing key bowlers.

There were early wickets for Dom Lloyd and John Crisp but Amstrong, (38), and Chaudri, (24), gave substance to the total before Johnny Lawes, (3-54), and Gottschalk, (11-4-12-2), instigated a middle order collapse. Read more

The 2nd XI continued their promotion push with a 46 run victory – with bonus point – over Farncombe at the Rec.

Stoke skipper Malcolm Dickson was an early casualty with just an extra on the board; but substance was given to total with century partnerships, (both exactly 100), between Steve Wade, (39), and Simon Engelen; for the second wicket; then Engelen and Matt Gottschalk for the fourth. Read more
