A tough day for Stoke’s league sides…

1st XI
Surrey Championship Division 2
Stoke D’Abernon 47 all out (19 overs)
Worcester Park 48 for 2 (10 overs)
Worcester Park won by 8 wickets

Needing a win to boost their chances of survival Worcester Park made short work of a Stoke side who registered their lowest ever total in the Surrey Championship; only Oliver Trower, (20 not out), making it to double figures after Stoke were inserted. Read more

Defeats for all League XIs

A day that started with cautious optimism where winning the remaining games could result in one or more promotions ended up being a bit of a damp squib as all three league sides fell to defeat, and whilst mathematically things are still on for all prospects now look unlikely on all three fronts. Stoke won the toss and the early overs with Nick Scott taking the wickets of Overseas Zoysa leg before with his second ball and then fellow opener Edwards courtesy of a juggled catch in the cordon by Will Frost to make it 2 for 2 with his eighth. Read more

2nd XI beat Bank of England to go 3rd

Bank of England 2nd XI 156 all out (41.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 48 runs

With the worst of the conditions Stoke used a bit of creativity with their batting order, posted a good score for the pitch and secured maximum points with an excellent bowling and fielding display to move back into third place in the table with the top two still to play. Read more

2nd XI lose ground at Thames Ditton

Thames Ditton 2nd XI 150 for 5 (40.4 overs)
Thames Ditton 2nd XI won by 5 wickets

Stoke’s 2nd XI conceded further ground to the leaders with a defeat at Thames Ditton who moved into the promotion places with other results awaited at the time of going to press. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 10 runs

After three lean weeks in terms of points Stoke’s 2nd XI reignited their promotion ambitions with an ultimately nerve-wracking win at Addiscombe. Read more

Merton 2nd XI won by 6 wickets

Another thin week for availability, and with few form player options to call up from the 3rd XI the Stoke side assembled was very much an ‘on paper’ team. Sadly the lack of recent cricket in many led to an underwhelming total, but boy did the team make the opposition work hard for their points. Read more

With eight of the eleven who took the field having played more 3rd XI cricket and 2nd XI cricket this year, and three playing a 2s game for the first time ever, this was always going to be a tough mission; but a batting effort that exceeded expectations led to a positive declaration. Read more
