Stoke D’Abernon’s 1st XI completed their preparations for their Surrey Championship programme with an impressive 37 run win away to Old Rutlishians; a team currently ranked two divisions above them; Ian Hopton leading a fine recovery after Stoke found themselves in a precarious position mid-way through their innings. 1st XI start with win over Ashtead

After an opposition cry-off last week, Stoke D’Abernon’s 1st XI finally kicked off their 2010 season, and secured an eleven run victory at the Rec in a 40 over encounter over Ashtead’s 2nd XI that was played in a great spirit.

New Stoke skipper Siddhartha Lahiri won his first toss, and gave his openers Brian Berthoud and Will Patrick first use of the newly laid square. Steady progress was made against opening bowlers Morris and Neil-Hall, Morris’s first five overs yielding just four runs; but the breakthrough came in the 7th over when Patrick turned for a second run only to find Berthoud having settled for a single and was lost to a run out for just 5. 1st XI end 2009 League season with narrow defeat at Dorking

A depleted Stoke 1st XI ended their first season in the Surrey Championship with a last over defeat at Dorking in what turned out to be a nailbiter.

The home side gave Andy Page’s men first use of their own strip, and Gavin Gresse and Will Patrick added 47 for the opening wicket before falling in successive overs; Patrick scooping to keeper Chave off Kelsey for 14; Gresse, (32), misjudging an inswinger from Chadwick and falling leg-before offering no shot.
