Sunday XI : 17 eventful overs then rain

With availability coming in later than hoped we sailed close to the wind on the fixture stakes, only getting something appropriate on the Friday evening. A message from that opposition to say they couldn’t raise a side was then received whilst the 3rd XI match was nearing its conclusion; another opposition was cajoled into conceding home advantage at 8pm only for them to call at 9.20pm to say not enough players were prepared to switch to an away; so the mood at the dinner table was glum until a message came through at 10.14pm to ask if we were still looking for an opposition. Match Drawn – ‘Winning Draw’ to Stoke D’Abernon

Stoke returned to the scene of their 2019 promotion and returned home this time with a winning draw and still more than a decent chance of repeating that feat. Read more

Egham 2nd XI won by 5 wickets

A bad day at the office for the 2nd XI who had to battle to a total after losing the toss and were under par as the visitors replaced them in 3rd place in the table with this win. Read more

Over 40s complete double over Westfield

The Over 40s completed a win double over Westfield at The Rec with a solid performance; posting a score that was within range with a short boundary one side, but was defended well with good bowling and fielding. Read more

Under 19s lose again but more good things

Surrey Junior Cricket Championship – Under 19 T20 Tier 1 Central
Ashtead Under 19s 208 for 3 (18 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon Under 19s 78 all out (15.3 overs)
Ashtead Under 19s won by 130 runs

Another trough night for the Under 19s who were again missing many of those initially earmarked to play in the competition; seven of the eleven scrambled together had not played before. Things were compounded further when Ashtead unleashed a 1st XI bat on a young attack – not sour grapes, that is their right and far be it from us to dictate their line-up, but fact – two other batters reached the retiral mark quickly, and this made for a lot of leather chasing on a large playing area where extra runs were also stolen on young arms. We were delighted to receive an invite from Chobham in the week, and two evenly matched sides played out an exciting game that went the home side’s way in the end, but they were made to work extremely hard for their win after Stoke posted a moderate score. Read more

Stoke won the toss and the early overs with Nick Scott taking the wickets of Overseas Zoysa leg before with his second ball and then fellow opener Edwards courtesy of a juggled catch in the cordon by Will Frost to make it 2 for 2 with his eighth. Read more

Over 40s beat Leatherhead narrowly in 9+1 aside encounter
