Wet day for the 1st XI

The first XI endured a frustrating and thoroughly damp day in which unfortunately no play was possible in the scheduled match against Southern Railway & Kenley.

On the positive side this meant that Will did not lose the toss. Attempts were made to make the rec playable using our new super-soppers. Danny did sterling work with one of these, although why he insisted on doing it barefoot is anyone’s guess. The super-soppers soaked up water tremendously quickly, but alas ultimately too much rain fell and we couldn’t soak it all up. As a result the points were shared 1 each, but in true Stoke fashion we didn’t let the poor weather conditions spoil the party. Read more

Injuries ahead of this match saw more opportunities given to younger players, and they didn’t disappoint as Stoke got back to winning ways in Thames Ditton against Old Pauline. The story of the match was in part the story of 2 opening stands (all 4 opening batsmen passed 50), one which was built on and one which wasn’t. Read more

Match Drawn
‘Winning Draw’ to Merrow

Having won the toss for the first time this season Will elected to field for the first of the 9 declaration games. SDCC Tall XI

A topic for debate courtesy of Adrian Mills…

Saturday’s 1st XI saw 5 players measuring in at 6’3” or above leading us to wonder if there has ever been a taller Stoke XI on the field of play together and how many of these players would make an all-time SDCC tall XI. Read more
