Malc passes 8000 runs. Finchy (Chris) reaches 400 caps. Sunday XI lose.

Sunday 5th August 2018
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 151 for 9 (40 overs)
Woodmansterne 153 for 6 (35.4 overs)
Woodmansterne won by 4 wickets

Better than normal Sunday availability led to us being able to search for an additional friendly match and our friends from Woodmansterne were able to offer us a fixture.

Batting first after winning the toss early wickets put Stoke on the back foot but there was cause for some celebration as Malcolm Dickson passed 8000 career runs for the Club when making the match’s highest score of 35. He was one of only two in the top seven to make double-figures; Deepak Malhotra, (26), the other.

Whilst we have been involved many matches where game management is required, this was a rare one where we were the recipients of a few runs; Jeremy Connell, (38 not out), and Peter Phipps, (16 not out), lifted the total to 151 for 9 in our allotted 40 overs.

The chase was reasonably routine with the top six all making double-figures with a top score of just 30. Nevertheless the bowlers got good overs into their legs. Jeremy Connell, (8-1-23-2), removed both openers, Deepak Malhotra, (6-0-23-2), dismissed No.3 & No.4; but the bowling stocks were not as deep as normal; and the only further wickets were late ones for Aarav Malhotra and Chris Finch; the former taking his first in senior cricket; the latter just his 41st in his 400th appearance for the Club.

Thanks to Woodmansterne for hosting us. We hope to see them again at the end of September. When the strength of any potential Sunday side is known we will source an appropriate fixture for next weekend.
