Ladies beat Shepperton

Tuesday 10th July 2018
Women’s Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 139 for 4 (20 overs)
Shepperton 105 for 3 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 34 runs

England’s Round of 16 World Cup match put this fixture back a week. Stoke crept up to a mid-table position off the back of this win.

Batting first Stoke lost two early wickets but skipper Anya Devon-Berry and Charlotte Elworthy got the board moving before the former, who made 19, was one of two wickets to fall with just 36 on the board; but these would be the only wickets Stoke would lose.

Elworthy carried on and went big, making a career best 63 before retiring by rule. Ella Clinton, (26 not out), and a nice helping of extras saw Stoke up to a competitive 139 for 4.

In reply Stoke found wickets hard to come by as Shepperton’s openers ran well and added 71 before one of them retired at 30.

Stoke’s bowling was good enough to keep Shepperton behind the rate; allowing Maryam Hafiz, Ailsa Malcolm and Elworthy to take a wicket each and restrict the visitors to 105 in their allotted overs.

Thanks to all those who came down to support.
