Short Handed Ladies Fight Hard

Women’s Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon Ladies 79 all out (22.2 overs)
Dulwich Women’s 1st XI 80 for 2 (17.2 overs)
Dulwich won by 8 wickets

Match report from Andy Berry…

On another scorching day Stoke Ladies gathered at Dulwich for their second Trust League match fielding only eight, (although Dulwich kindly supplied us a spare), two of whom were making their debuts to cricket.

Electing to bat first Anya Devon-Berry was castled early to a peach from the impressive Chathli, (4-1-5-3), bringing Taylor Newcombe to join Ella Clinton.

A very watchful partnership of 24 was ended with Ella being bowled for 9 in the seventh over bringing Ailsa Malcolm to the crease for a short cameo scoring 3.

Taylor was then joined by Alice Knight who scored 7 before being brilliantly caught by Cross. Taylor then departed mistiming a drive to see rookies to cricket Steph Gibson and Becky Turner together with score on 56 in the 13th over.

Both played with patience and grew in confidence as they nudged the all into spaces either side of the wickets. Their wonderful partnership added 23 runs before Steph was bowled by Chadhli and Becky was run out by a fabulous direct hit.

Kristie Neilinger, who was also making her debut to cricket then came to the crease and was also well caught, bringing the Stoke Ladies innings to a close at 79 off 22.2 of the 25 overs.

All the Stoke bowlers should be commended for their efforts and the Ladies fielded very well to ensure Dulwich took nearly 18 overs to reach their target. A wicket a piece for Clinton and Gibson was all to show for a valiant performance.

This Sunday seeing the Ladies play their first home game against Epsom with a back to full strength squad available. Please do come down to support.
