Travelbag Surrey Championship Division 3 – 2nd XI Competition
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 179 all out (48.3 overs)
Kempton 2nd XI 184 for 3 (24.2 overs)
Kempton 2nd XI won by 6 wickets

Stoke’s second string made a great start to this one but once the opposition got a foothold in the game and went on a roll they proved difficult to contain.

Batting first Dan Gluckman, (32), Andy Berry, (50), and Roddy Kelso, (41), got Stoke into a good position at 104 for 1 after 20 overs; but the order – juggled a little after some late changes to the side – were unable to capitalise on things and were bowled out for 179; only Peter Phipps, (17), the only other to make double figures to help extend the innings to the 49th over.

Having won their T20 match in the week, members of Kempton’s line-up who played in that win carried on in the same manor; scoring at eleven per over for the first five before a good catch by Jase Earl off Thomas Dennis slowed things a little.

Stoke’s commitment to youth saw Ben Townsend try his luck next and he made it 71 for 2 by castling Dhillon for 40 – his economy of 4.60 was well below the final overall innings rate of 7.56 – but a brisk stand of 91 between Scott, (73 not out), and Saini, (39), took the visitors to the brink of victory. Gluckman, (1 for 42), was one of seven bowlers to share just 24.2 overs.

Stoke will hope for better fortune next week when they host fellow promotees Chessington.
