Good News from Kevin who provides a report from last week’s match…
Friday 11th May 2018
West Surrey Youth Cricket League – East
Stoke D’Abernon U12 123 for 6 (20 overs)
Maori Oxshott U12 113 for 8 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon U12 won by 10 runs
The lovely venue of Danes Hill School saw both sides fielding teams of mixed experience, a good opportunity for some of our less experienced players to head the batting order, Jamie P, Caleb C, Charlie B all scoring before falling to some good Oxshott bowling.
Max P was caught well and Arren S was run out though he is getting his bad luck out of the way early season, the good innings are on the way. Aarav G & Ella C then upped the pace till Ella made a dive for the crease, just getting run out by a whisker.
Max B them came in the last three putting on 61 runs between them including fire works from Aarav in the final over including two sixes. With Seb D, Aarav M and James M not getting to bat the team had put on a good total and all Oxshott players got to bowl.
In reply Oxshott’s openers formed a good partnership, Stoke bowled well and kept patient, it was great to see and hear senior players encouraging team-mates throughout.
The breakthrough came from Caleb C in the fifth bowling his first wicket for Stoke, followed four balls later by his second. Getting a third wicket in his second over made him leading wicket taker for the U12s so far the season, until Ella added to her tally also taking 3 wickets in the match.
Seb & Aarav G took one a piece leaving a very neat scorecard showing all eight of Oxshott’s wickets as bowled.
A very nice game with every player on both sides bowling save for our wicket-keeper James who was happy behind the stumps.
The other highlight was the school’s automated sprinkler system going off at various times, players and supporters mostly avoided a soaking.
