AGM News (Minutes Now Available)

The recent AGM – overseen by new President Stephen Finch – was very much a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ following our excellent 2017 season, most of the roles and responsibilities for 2018 remaining unchanged. James Trower continues as Club Captain, likewise Jase Earl retains his role skippering the 2nd XI.

In his Chairman’s report, Drew referred to another excellent season at all levels in the Club, highlighted by the promotion of the 1st XI to Division 3 of the Surrey Championship under the leadership of JT, (back to back promotions in his two seasons as Club Captain), and congrats were extended to the 2nd XI for promotion to Division 3 of that ladder under the captaincy of Jase. Availability for team selection was generally very good, especially in the latter part of the season leading to talk of an expanded senior fixtures programme.

Drew reiterated the need to clear the outstanding balance of the Clubhouse Extension loan – this would include a re-launch of the Century Club – but in the same breath mentioned that hiking subs and match fees was not the way to go to achieve this and they would remain unchanged this year. Please consider what a donation from anyone reading this, whatever amount, will do to help this.

Drew also noted that the Club enjoyed its best ever seasonal income from Colts’ subs, thanking Shannon Clinton for having done an excellent job in this regard.

Treasurer Rod presented the accounts, (audited again by Ali Mac), which made good reading, albeit we suffered an overall loss, despite the outstanding loan repayments.

So the 2018 Committee is as follows:

Chairman – Andrew Patrick
Treasurer – Rod Thomson
Secretary – Peter Phipps
Colts Director – Kevin Morgan
Senior Fixtures & Media – Ralph Coleman
Facilities – Andy Page
Club Captain – James Trower
Second Eleven Captain – Jase Earl
Colts Membership Secretary – Shannon Clinton
Senior Subs – VACANCY
Welfare & Clubmark Officer – Victoria Cheeseman
Ladies – Anya Devon-Berry

Note a VACANCY for Senior Membership Secretary has arisen after Sarah Trower stood down with her boys no longer a part of the colts or Academy squads. Drew thanked Sarah for her fantastic efforts in managing subscriptions and colts fixtures over a long and distinguished career as a volunteer at the Club, wishing her well as she left the Committee…although she was promptly re-elected as a Vice President!

The joint venture for women & girls’ cricket with East Molesey CC had been terminated by EMCC…but fear not. The Stoke D’Abernon Ladies CC has already been re-formed, (see Facebook site), with Anya Devon-Berry taking over from Emma, and she is extremely confident that we will have more than enough players to fulfil our Surrey Trust League fixtures. Interest in joining Stoke for women & girls cricket remains high; and we are indebted to Stoker, World Cup Winner and Surrey Stars Captain Nat Sciver who continues to help promote the Club from wherever she is in the world.

After the meeting we made full use of our renewed bar licence with a few cold ones.
