Travelbag Surrey Championship Division 4
Trinity Midwhitgiftians 182 all out (41.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 184 for 2 (36.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 8 wickets
With a 2nd v 3rd match-up taking place in Churt, (result not yet in at the time of going to press), Stoke’s 1st XI had the chance to open up a gap on one or both of them at the top of the table, and did so with another emphatic run-chase at The Rec.
Another won toss saw Stoke field first and openers Shaw Dyson, (2), and Toby Tarrant, (1), soon had the visitors on the back foot at 41 for 3.
Ian Hopton and Will Frost, (12-1-38-1), continued their good work; Frost taking out Overseas player Lara for 35; and the returning Dyson chipped away at the lower order, collecting another three wickets to finish with a maiden five-for for Stoke and figures of 14-2-62-5.
Hopton, (3 for 26), closed the innings on 182 and this left Stoke a minimum of 59 overs to chase the runs. They only needed 36.4.
Hopton and James Trower got the chase off to a rapid start with a stand of 71 in 13.4 overs; Trower checking out on 35 from 32 balls faced.
This brought James O’Gorman, (who had earlier taken three catches in the field), to the crease and 109 runs later the next wicket fell when Hopton, (68), was dismissed shortly before the winning hit, administered by O’Gorman who made an unbeaten 64.
Stoke stay top, and next week we host Old Hamptonians.
