Womens Cricket Southern League
Stoke Molesey Ladies 170 for 5 (40 overs)
Shepperton Women 172 for 7 (28.4 overs)
Shepperton Women won by 3 wickets
Match Report from Andy Berry…
Despite being a player short to face title contenders Shepperton Women at Halliford, Stoke Molesey Ladies lost an excellent match by just 3 wickets.
Electing to bat first captain Charlotte Elworthy was joined in the third over by Amy Page following Anya Devon-Berry top edging to Izzy Ralph. 4-1.
This pair batted with patience on an unpredictable wicket, hitting the bad balls to take the score to 97 before Elworthy was bowled for a classy 42. Page was joined at the crease by Rose Winter who continued the run rate to add 50 more runs before scooping to gully for 18.
Page finally ended up 80 not out delivering a masterclass of controlled and powerful hitting, having been joined in final overs by Jaz Good, Emma Blaikie and Harriet Naismith.
Stoke Molesey’s total of 170 off the 40 overs is more creditable given the quality of the Shepperton bowling attack, many of whom are full Surrey players.
Suffering the loss of opener Sal Dixon in the first over to a fiery Elworthy, (8-0-29-4), Shepperton added 14 before the skipper also bowled Beck Jones.
Ably supported by Ella Clinton, (5-0-38-2), Devon-Berry, (6.4-1-21-0), and Page, (5-0-36-1), Stoke Molesey never quite managed to keep the run flow from the punishing Izzy Ralph, (43), and Katie Forward, (36 not out), but they did chip away with wickets regularly until Shepperton scored the winning runs in the 29th over.
With some excellent fielding and no dropped catches this was a fabulous team effort and once again demonstrates how close this talented group have come to defeating the leading South League team.
Well done Ladies. We will take much from this moving forward!
