Ladies Update : Big Win and Missing Stats Restored

Sunday 11th June 2017
Women’s Cricket Southern League
Purley Redoubtables 25 all out (12.1 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies 29 for 3 (6.5 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 7 wickets

In a match of interest to our most famous follower, Nat Sciver, having played for both clubs; Stoke Molesey Ladies made very short work of Purley at the weekend, dismissing them for just 25 in 12.1 overs.

A tremendous upturn in form and performance after the educational loss to Finchley. With the exam season in full flow Purley only managed to field eight players, though they still could count on a couple of county players to bolster their team.

After opening bowlers Charlotte Elworthy and Anya Devon-Berry took a wicket each – the key ones of Heywood and Webber – in their agressive opening spells to make it 17 for 2; Ella Wilson returned the best figures of the match, (and her own career best), of 2.1-0-5-3. Katie Sutherland – demonstrating her new, flatter leg-spin – was denied the chance to improve on figures of 2-2-0-0 as Purley didn’t have a full side. The remaining batters were cleaned up in 4.1 overs for only 5 runs.

With so few runs to chase, there was a chance to give the younger and less experienced players a chance with the bat. Three wickets were lost in the chase but the runs were knocked off in just 6.5 overs. Rose Winter score 14 of the first 15.

Ailsa Malcolm and Harriet Naismith batted calmly to see Stoke Molesey over the line and give the team a much needed win.

So, after a bit of adjusting to the new league, Stoke Molesey Ladies are now finding their feet, and with returning players due soon at the end of school and university terms, hopes are high of further progress up the table.

This Sunday sees league leaders, Twickenham, at the Stoke Rec, 1pm start. Do come along and support.

We apologise for the number of “Unsure” entries for player names. Players now have to be registered with the League before they can be entered on to scorecards and some clubs aren’t as efficient as us at doing this.

Trust League Update
Eagle-eyed members of the Stoke Molesey squad noticed that some of their stats disappeared over the weekend. It appears that the Trust League match against Headley played on the 28th May that was abandoned at half-time, (report here : http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2017/05/29/runs-for-anya-but-ladies-rained-off-at-half-time/ ), has been expunged and re-set to be replayed on the 17th September. (News to SDCC Admin!)

If this is the case, a game of cricket still took place(!) so we have re-loaded the abandoned game as a friendly pending confirmation of the above, to reflect the effort that went in to raising a side and the team playing so well until it rained.
