Another Gudgeon Ton as 1s Win Well

Saturday 10th June 2017
Travelbag Surrey Championship Division 4
Stoke D’Abernon 274 all out (46.5 overs)
Weybridge Vandals 148 all out (37 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 126 runs

Stoke maintained their position at the top of the division with a deserved victory over bottom of the table Weybridge Vandals.

Inserted on a pitch that still offered something to the bowlers after the mid-week rain, Stoke didn’t make the best of starts, falling to 23 for 3 then 48 for 4 with a variety of dismissals.

The fourth wicket saw Will Gudgeon come to the wicket, and after a short partnership with Shawn Dyson, (32), he put together more substantial partnerships of 82 with Kane Fullalove, (26), 78 with Dan Gluckman, (32), and other members so the lower order and the tail.

Gudgeon made 114 out of a final total of 274, his second century in three weeks and a very special moment for Dad who was in the country to witness it, and Stoke had a formidable total to bowl at.

After tea Vandals lost Lord early; but made steady progress, reaching 46 for 1 and then 94 for 2; but that was as good as it got as Will Frost, (3 for 17), Dan Gluckman, (2 for 45), and Ian Hopton, (1 for 7), chipped away at the order; leaving Toby Tarrant, (10-3-35-4), to double his tally for the afternoon in his second spell having earlier removed both openers. Tarrant passed 100 Surrey Championship 1st XI wickets with this haul.

Results elsewhere mean Stoke are by no means clear at the top. They hope to consolidate their lead next weekend when they travel to Horsley & Send.
