Under 9s Top the Table

We have just received this report on last Sunday’s match from Joel:

Sunday 14th May 2017
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Development League Under 9 East
Pairs Batting
Stoke D’Abernon U9 268 for 10 (16 overs)
Teddington Town U9 251 for 7 (16 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon U9 won by 17 runs

It was nice to get a win and many thanks to David C and David B for their support.

Teddington Town certainly had a mix of strong and developing players and that made the challenge far more interesting, with a nail biting last four overs. Final net scores were 68 for us and 51 for them, which is flattering with a very tense ending, a couple of dads were very excitable on the sideline. (You know who you are!)

Stoke started slowly on the batting front, (some good lessons for the boys here especially on how to play on the front foot against fast bowlers.) This meant we set a modest target that would need some serious defending!

Hats off to the boys though as they all in the main bowled the best seen from them and fielded strongly. That said there were 55 extras so more accuracy and consistency is still required across the patch. Also on the fielding more focus is needed on covering the stumps and backing up, especially on throwing in where the boys need to in the main keep it underarm and catchable.

It all came down to the last four overs and it felt like an IPL final out at the pitch as our boys had to defend our total against their best batsmen. But they did it superbly with tight bowling control.

Man of the match was Cookie. He was superb on the front foot batting and also bowled excellently, never mind some great fielding.

So well done to all the lads as they are making great progress and having seen a few more in action this week, plus having dropped into the training, it is becoming clear that we have a very solid squad this season.
