Last Over Defeat for the 2nd XI

Saturday 13th May 2017
Travelbag Surrey Championship Division 4 – 2nd XI Competition
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 220 all out (49 overs)
Hampton Wick Royal 2nd XI 221 for 8 (49.3 overs)
Hampton Wick Royal 2nd XI won by 2 wickets

For the second week running Stoke lost the last quarter of the match and the points having been in control for the majority of the rest.

Batting first, Jase Earl top scored with 66; there were useful contributions from Malcolm Dickson, (47), Giacomo Gray, (41), and Extras, (37), that saw Stoke post 220, bowled out at the end of the penultimate over.

Stoke made a great start to the second session but were to suffer injuries to Charlie Hill, (4.4-2-11-1), and Giacomo Gray, (4-0-18-3 – career best), to leave the team a little inflexible in the field.

After the visitors got to 84 for 2, (Charlton 56), a mini-collapse to 99 for 6 seemed to tip things Stoke’s way, but lower order runs from Copeland, (50), and Browning, (50 not out with the winning hit), and a generous 37 extras saw the visitors home with three balls to spare.

Next week Stoke host Alleyn where the loser will either drop into or remain in the bottom two.
