A few colts were in action over the Easter weekend as our good friends at Esher organised some pre-season get togethers.
On Good Friday a twelve strong squad of U11s played a three match 10-a-side tournament against two Esher sides and a strong Spencer side. The following day Oli Slipper took an U10 side to Esher for another pre-season friendly.
The pattern was the same both days with Esher taking pre-season bragging rights from their greater batting intent. However Stoke impressed with their bowling in all matches, some great catches taken and some sharp fielding which bodes well for when we meet for real in the league.
Above all it was great to be outside playing after the confines of winter nets and wonderful to see the enthusiasm of young Stokers getting set for another season. One tale of a particular keen lad with his whites on at breakfast time in anticipation of a 2.00pm match start!
Thanks to all parents for braving chilly conditions and grateful thanks to Duncan Pauline, (http://www.espncricinfo.com/scotland/content/player/25414.html), Pete Slaney & Mark Farmer from Esher for putting on a great couple of days and their excellent hospitality.
Thanks to Kevin Morgan for penning this update.
