My Greatest XI : Dom Morley

The next Stoker to put forward his squad and greatest final XI is Dom Morley, who has written to us from his placement in the States…

Had a bit of time on my hands out here in Montana so thought I’d chip in to the best XI that I’ve played with debate, although mine is a very modern team:

1. Alistair McMillan
2. Sonny Cott
3. Timmy Handel
4. Oliver Trower
5. Will Gudgeon
6. Hiken Shah (WK)
7. Andy Page (C)
8. Dan Douthwaite
9. Matt Gottschalk
10. Adrian Mills
11. Gary Harkett

Alistair McMillan 107 v Ashford - July 2016
Sonny Cott Ireland U19 1
Handel and Gudgeon
Olly Trower
Hiken Shah v England 1
Andy Page v Ripley 2015 1
Douthwaite v Claygate
Matt Gottschalk Bowling by MHS
Adrian Mills v Ripley 2015 1

With Dom still in the early stages of his Stoke career he initially picked a squad of just 22 with one sub for each position instead of the “33 and Final XI” model put together by the two Richies, (Benaud and Parrett); but after a bit of persuasion he’s bulked up his squad to 32 with:

1 & 2 : Sid Lahiri, Nico Spreeth, James Trower and Tom Ward
No’s 3, 4 & 5 : Tom Frost, Ian Hopton, Will Patrick, Jack Raimondo, Paulie Ramdin and Adrian Taylor
6-8 : Malcolm Dickson, Jase Earl, Jono Fowler, Greg Routley and Will Thomson
No.9 : Will Frost and Dan Gluckman
Nos 10 & 11 : Alex Bond, Jake Lavender, Ralphie and Toby Tarrant.

Imagine a triangular tournament between Dom’s XI and two teams selected from the rest!

Dom will be back for the beginning of next season, (for a bit), “…Would love to play this summer…away from the end of May to the end of August…” – probably just as well he’ll be away for a bit as the rest of the e-mail he sent in was giving it the big’un about Morls’ Men, his all-conquering Stoke Fantasy Football League team!

For those who don’t know Dom, he is one of many to progress through age-group cricket at Stoke to the 1st XI; along the way he registered one of the fastest half-centuries Club history when he cracked an unbeaten 51 of 21 balls at Walton-on–Thames in the Under 19T20 Blast in 2015.

He was down for games in 2016 as well but every one he was selected for was rained off!
