Stoke D’Abernon Advent Calendar 2016 (20)

We played our usual mix of competitive, friendly and age-group T20 cricket this year.

In senior T20 we recorded a great victory over Valley End in the first round of the Surrey Championship T20 competition, (that gave the 1st XI squad a lot of momentum at the time after an indifferent start to the season), and we went through the next round on a bowl-out before losing to eventual Finals Day participants Weybridge.

The Under 19 T20 campaign is captured earlier in this calendar : http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2016/12/16/stoke-dabernon-advent-calendar-2016-16/

The Under 17s were less fortunate in their T20 knockout competition. Their first round tie against Dorking was postponed FOUR times(!) due to the weather. Rod’s persistence in re-arranging the game wasn’t met with the same enthusiasm by the opposition who then scratched, leaving us an away tie at Sutton. The boot was then on the other foot as we had to concede(!) but in the spirit of #GetTheGameOn we still put together a friendly T20 side and played the match on a very hot evening, our young side putting up a great performance before losing narrowly to a county age-group filled opposition.

2016 also saw the inaugural Over 40s T20 match where Stoke’s XI, made up mostly of age group managers and other colts’ parents, (pictured below at the Colts’ Awards Night held in September), scored a great win over Weybridge’s Over 40s, who we were told had never lost.
The Over 40s – know affectionately as “Dads in Pads” – practice weekly under the guidance of Timmy Handel before having a few cold ones, and are looking to play more fixtures next year.
