Surrey Trust Womens League
Stoke Molesey Ladies 195 for 6 (30 overs)
Ashford Women 169 for 5 (30 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 26 runs
Andy Berry reports on the Stoke Molesey Ladies who completed a well-earned victory over Ashford Ladies on Sunday.
Due to both teams suffering from holiday absences an 8-a-side format was agreed by Captains Amy Page and Jenny Tippell over 30 overs.
Stoke Molesey’s openers Alex Travers, (18 runs), and Meg Kapadia, (26), gave the team a fabulous start patiently waiting for loose balls to punish until Alex was out in the 8th over with the score at 44.
Momentum was not lost as Rosie Weir, (14), and Anya Devon-Berry, (13), both punished bad balls and scored freely. Rose Winter’s brisk 17, off 6 balls, was followed by Jenny Gluckman chipping in with 5 before captain Amy Page was joined by Ella Chandler at the crease with 6 overs to go with the score at 134.
Both batted with maturity, (knowing a wicket would close the innings), punishing the over-pitched bowling and catapulting the Stoke Molesey score to 195 after 30 overs.
In the field Stoke Molesey opened with Jenny, (1-32), and Anya, (1-27), who both found good lines and lengths to restrict Ashford to 28 in the 6th over before Page took a fine catch off Anya’s bowling.
Ashford’s Hannah Merchant struck an aggressive 38 before retiring, but with an ask of over 10 an over Ashford fell short due to tight bowling from Megan Kapadia, (0-14 off 5 overs), Page, (0-15), and Ella Chandler, (1-20.)
Stoke Molesey’s 26 run victory was truly a team effort and bodes well for the remaining matches of the season.
