Stoke Molesey Ladies beat Streatham & Marlborough

Sunday 14th August 2016
Surrey Trust Womens League
Stoke Molesey Ladies 148 for 6 (25 overs)
Streatham & Marlborough Womens 1st XI 124 for 6 (25 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 24 runs

Early arrivals to the Rec were treated to a great win by a short-handed Stoke Molesey side over Streatham & Marlborough, (God knows what time the opposition would have needed to set off for a 25 over game on a Sunday morning!), to move up the table.

Stoke Molesey batted first but lost the early loss of Alex Travers, Rosie Weir and Rose Winter saw the board showing 20 for 3, not an ideal position to be in with just eight players.

Meg Kapadia made 23, and batted around Amy Page who initially retired, but returned at the fall of the last wicket to end 46 not out. Ella Chandler made a more than useful 24 not out as Stoke Molesey closed on 148. There were 40 extras.

In reply Stoke Molesey found early wickets hard to come by but Rosie Weir conceded just ten runs in her first four overs.

Ella Chandler took the first two wickets on 46 and 57, and as can often happen in women & girls cricket, there was soon a flood of wickets as lesser players and beginners were given their chance.

Three wickets fell with the score on 75, 77 and 77 again; two to Chandler who finished with excellent figures of 5-0-9-4; Page collected the other in her solitary over.

Stoke Molesey ran out comfortable winners by 24 runs despite some clean late hitting from Prowse who made 24 with four fours and a big six. 42 extras made it closer than it actually was.

The League table currently is very dis-jointed with concessions, abandonments and postponements. Attempts are being made to catch up these missing fixtures. Keep an eye on the site for details.
