Cup Progress the highlight of FOUR Under 10s matches played in a week!

A bumper edition of match reports from Kevin for the U10s who have played four(!) games since Thursday of last week.

Thursday 19th May 2016
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Cup 1st Round
Stoke D’Abernon U10s 158 for 6 (20 overs)
Royal Ascot U10s 85 for 6 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon U10s won by 73 runs

Both sides had a host of problems getting this fixture arranged, at one point the organisers instructed Stoke to forfeit. An appeal for common sense helped by some ‘persuasive’ intervention from Sarah Trower ensured we were given dispensation to go past the deadline; Royal Ascot to their sporting credit wanting to play the match as much as we did.

An excellent game ensued, played in great spirit despite the chilly temperature. Stoke were good value for the win with strength in batting throughout the order. Marcus N the pick of the bunch retiring on 30 runs including five fours and a six. Hasaan D from the U9s hit 21 runs.

Jared H, Theo S and Jack R also finished well into double figures. The strength in bowling was similarly consistent with 6 bowlers each taking a wicket and some terrific bowling from Hasaan, Jonny & Lorenzo from our U9s.

Thank you to all parents for making players available on a busy school night. Thanks also to Oli Slipper for umpiring…and getting half the team to and from the match!

Friday 20th May 2016
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Gladys Chitty
Stoke D’Abernon U10s 255 for 7
Merrow U10s 285 for 3
Merrow U10s won by 30 runs

The following evening saw our Gladys Chitty team open their League campaign, three new players George R, Harvin M and Sam P making their Stoke debuts and impressing.

The sides were reasonably even but Merrow had the edge through a little more consistent bowling and some excellent fielding. Our standout batters were Max B. George and Sam, though all players hit some good shots.

We spent time on Monday night training working on calling & running between the wickets, work we shall carry on this week!

Special mention to Max B who bowled two overs for just 1 run, Jake P also bowed efficiently including one over with a wicket also for the expense of just 1 run. George R followed up his strong batting performance with some excellent bowling, taking two wickets in one over.

We were two players short but Merrow kindly agreed to allow two players to bat twice and loaned us fielders during their innings. Again great sportsmanship from our opposition.

Thank you to Tim Pearce for scoring and well done to all parents for staying the distance on another chilly evening.

Sunday 22nd May 2016
Friendly (8-a-side pairs match)
Deando Ruxley U10s 252
Stoke D’Abernon U10s 249
Deando Ruxley U10s won by 3 runs

A further opportunity for some of the U10s squad to get some valuable match time, courtesy of this friendly hosted by Deando. Max D impressed on his debut scoring runs, not getting out and bowling well to take a deserved wicket in his first ever cricket match.

Some excellent bowling from George R and batting from Sam P were evident. A further mention for Max B who has clearly been working hard over the winter on his game with excellent results.

Thanks also to Pete Daire for scoring and Martin Bednall umpiring the second innings.

Sunday 22nd May 2016
Mid Surrey League (Pairs Batting)
Stoke D’Abernon U10s 343 for 4
Spencer U10B 227 for 8
Stoke D’Abernon U10s won by 116 runs

Meanwhile the U10s first team were hosting Spencer B at Stoke HQ and put in a masterful performance. Stoke were strong throughout with bat, ball and in the field. It is fair to say dominated the game.

Though all the team performed, Charlie B stands out, top scoring with 21 runs then turning in bowling figures of 3-2-4-2!

Very well done to all the boys on a great team performance. Thank you to Robin Jeffcott & Simon Richardson for running the game, umpiring & scoring. Simon has summarised the excellent bowling figures below which speak for themselves & also provided the attached score sheets.
