Feedback from Australia (2)

Further to yesterday’s article, (http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2016/04/28/nice-feedback-from-australia/), Peter Weston has joined the e-mail trail…and called out Keith & Gary from 10,535 miles away:

G’day! Still feel like I could go out and knock up a quick 50 in half an hour or so…NOT!!! Unlike Chris, I know my limitations – the concept of touring South Africa at his age has one inevitable ending…achilles and tears!

But Chris, I had a look at the statistics of that match you played for Stoke – wow, 9 wickets and not out 13 – you must have been drinking heavily the night before!

Great to see some of the guys from our time there are still involved in the Club…a real trip down memory lane reading about the Club. And I see you are fundraising for the Clubhouse – I assume it is a refurb and not a replacement of the old bomb shelter.

Please give my regards to anyone at the club who still might remember me.

PS. I assume the club song which I wrote has long been removed from the changing room wall??!!

When going back and giving a few more details of how we have progressed, the Clubhouse extension project, (including a cheeky pitch from some finance from Shell), who was still playing for us, etc; we were delighted to tell Peter that the Victory Song, (pictured below), has lasted the test of time…although the vocal talents of the players has meant it has suffered a bit!

He came back with:

Suggest you don’t hang out for Shell to come to the party!

Tell Keith and Gary that I am listening and that they should lift their game on the victory song!!

Clubhouse 13 Victory Song

Peter, (and another Australian Peter Jones), also introduced the Australia Cup in 1991; and at the Club Dinner in 1992 when Peter topped the player ballot, he cursed himself that he hadn’t sourced a bigger cup!

One a particularly bad day against St.Johns in 1993, (http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/results/1609423), Peter was entrusted with phoning the result in to the League, as we had to back then in the pre Play Cricket days. The League answer-machine message asked for the match, toss, result, runs/wickets/overs…and any notable performances.

Peter ended the call by simply saying : “There weren’t many notable performances.”

Peter loves a stat as much as much as anyone, so to complete this mini-series, here are his : http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/629965?rule_type_id=179
