Sunday 9th August 2015
Surrey Trust League
Ashtead 204 for 8 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 200 for 9 (40 overs)
Ashtead won by 4 runs
Stoke’s faint hopes of qualification for the latter stages of the Trust League were finally ended when unable to chase down Ashtead’s 40-over total of 204.
Ian Hopton led the bowling effort with 4 for 21 and there were wickets for Charlie Hill, Nico Spreeth and Will Thomson.
In reply Stoke were handily placed at 96 for 1 in the 22nd over but Spreeth, who top-scored with 57, departed then Giacomo Gray, (28), went soon after, both wickets to Caprano-Wint.
Olly Trower made 30 before he was lost to a run-out. Max Subba Row, Thomson and Alastair Curran all made double-figure scores but none of them reached 20 and Stoke fell four runs short after needing eleven off the final over.
So one more match to go in this year’s league; home to Dulwich next Sunday, (16th), who themselves have had a mixed bag of results and cannot qualify either.
Pride to play for.
