Will Patrick Century as the Gurkhas get into Cricket

Many of the current League, (including Trust League), and Sunday squads continue to maintain close contact with Will Patrick, despite him not having played any matches for Stoke for three years courtesy of 12 months at Sandhurst followed by two years, (and counting), with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Gurkha Rifles based in Folkestone.

In April this year, Will was tasked by his Commanding Officer with the creation of a cricket team that would be entered into the British Army’s inter-regimental knockout cup.

Nepalese soldiers are not very familiar with the game of cricket, so Will had to start from scratch by raiding Drew & Jo’s garage and borrowing every available spare piece of kit, including three bats – one of which, (don’t tell him), belongs to Paulie Ramdin! Whites were acquired from Kalibazar and the journey began.

Incredibly, news arrived on Monday afternoon of a famous victory in the quarter finals of 2RGR over 14 regiment, the Royal Artillery.

2RGR batted first in a 40 over contest, posting an impressive total of 262 for 5. Will P led from the front, finishing on 117 not out.

The opposition were rolled for 118, so 2RGR have made it to the semi-finals.

It’s a great tale of what can be achieved when you have men who really want to win and are willing to work hard to achieve their goals.

Stokers take note!!
