Academy lose but push Spencer all the way

Sunday 19th July 2015
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 136 all out (28.3 overs)
Spencer 138 for 8 (22.2 overs)
Spencer won by 2 wickets

Despite pushing Spencer to the end, a two-wicket defeat leaves Stoke’s Academy relying on other results elsewhere, (and winning their remaining games themselves), to progress to the later stages of this year’s competition.

The Reed’s triad of Nico Spreeth, Dan Douthwaite and Baz Medlycott were reunited, and they registered the three highest scores of the batting effort, (25, 27 and 27 not out respectively), in an innings that closed on a moderate 136 in just 28.3 overs.

In reply, Stoke looked dead and buried at 96 for 1 but three wickets for Jack Townsend, (3 for 30), two each for Douthwaite, (2 for 21), and Medlycott, (2 for 41); and one for the Ollie John, (returning to action ahead of schedule after breaking the thumb on his non-bowling hand), saw Spencer crawl over the line for the loss of eight wickets.

A full match report will follow here if JT can find a volunteer to draft one. (We also need details of the catchers, JT, or we get fined! Please advise. Thanks.)

Next week, Stoke travel to Oxted & Limpsfield in search of their first win.
