News of another win from Oli…

Sunday 5th July 2015
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Gladys Chitty Under 8 South
Stoke D’Abernon U8 373 for 2
Guildford City U8 333 for 5
Stoke D’Abernon U8 won by 40 runs

It was a game of two halves for the U8s who put in a quality batting display to register 173 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets in 16 overs, but followed up with an below par bowling and fielding display.

Stoke lost the toss and were sent into bat with the following pairs scores registered:

Oscar G and Stanley B : 30 runs
Alex W and Hudson C : 29 runs
Lorenzo T-F and Jack H : 53 runs
Jonny S and Rory S : 51 runs

In return we were always just about in control but bowled 28 wides and no-balls that definitely kept the opposition very much in the game; but Rory, (1-23), and Jonny, (3-16), finished the innings off well with some accurate death bowling.

Work to do but a good win.

“A nice win for the Gladys Chitty side playing with a man down” writes Kevin Morgan…

Friday 3rd July 2015
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Gladys Chitty Under 9 West
Stoke D’Abernon U9 285 for 6
Walton-on-Thames U9 277 for 12
Stoke D’Abernon U9 won by 8 runs

The U9s GC team secured another good win, this time away in the Friday evening sunshine at Walton.

Walton won the toss & batted first but Stoke were immediately on their game with some good bowling and energetic fielding.

Three wickets were claimed in the first two overs for a great start. Walton were able to get going finding boundaries in their innings but the wickets continued to fall. All our boys bowled well with Louis J, Max P, Ruben K & Dylan N all getting wickets to their name including four each for skipper Louis & Max.

George A produced the fielding highlight, taking a running catch off a high hit shot, doing brilliantly to get too the ball and to keep hold.

Max B and George opened the Stoke batting piling on 39 runs between them; Max P & Louis followed this up with 26 runs from their four overs.

Some excellent bowling from Walton then restricted Dylan & Max S somewhat but with two overs remaining Stoke were just behind the required target. This was quickly passed with Ruben coolly hitting ten runs from five balls and he and Max S closing it out nicely.

A deserved win, all the more so by Stoke only having seven players after illness caused a late drop out.

Thank you to Benn S for scoring and Robin J for umpiring.

UNDER 10s
Mixed fortunes for the under 10s but they ended their weekend with a bounceback win. Mark Christie has sent in this…

Friday 3rd July 2015
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Gladys Chitty Under 10 East
Sunbury U10 317 for 3
Stoke D’Abernon U10 245 for 12
Sunbury U10 won by 72 runs

We came up against a very strong Sunbury side on Friday night. Sunbury won the toss and decided to bat. All of their pairs put on runs and despite some valiant bowling from all Sunbury finished on 317 for the loss of 3 wickets. Archie, Tom and the spin-king Emaad taking a wicket a-piece.

As with their batting Sunbury bowled straight and true. Despite a fantastic display of strokeplay from Edward and Jack GW in our last pair we could only get to 245. Unfortunately chasing the runs throughout the innings we had lost 12 wickets and put ourselves under pressure.

Result – came second

Sunday 5th July 2015
West Surrey Youth Cricket League Gladys Chitty Under 10 East
Stoke D’Abernon U10 344 for 2
Thames Ditton U10 277 or 6
Stoke D’Abernon U10 won by 67 runs

Having brushed ourselves down from Friday, Thames Ditton were the next opponent. They won the toss and with the clouds heavy above decided to field first. Bad mistake!

A fantastic batting display from all of the team. We eased to 344 for the loss of two wickets, (our highest total of the season so far), 30 for Edward, 25 for Jack GW, (including a huge six over square leg), Jack O 20, 13 from Keaton, (great opening pair with Maarten which set the foundation.)

We then bowled well to make our score impossible score to chase. The whole team bowled tight, limiting any real scoring opportunities. Thames Ditton finished on 277 for 6. Wickets for Maarten and Edward and two for Josh and Alistair.

Result – comprehensive win!
