An updated article to include this match report from Amy Page:

Shepperton won the toss and chose to bat. Stoke Molesey put the pressure on from the start with quick accurate bowling from Charlotte and good line and length from Rosie.

Stoke Molesey started strong in the field; special mention to Poppy, Ailsa and Mikalea who showed fantastic fielding throughout. Shepperton soon felt the pressure causing miscommunication between the batters in the middle, and a calm Rosie with an accurate throw into Alex effected the run out.

Charlotte and Alex continued to bowl consistently. Rosie found the edge, pinging the ball to Ailsa who took a stunning close to the ground catch, and her first catch in women’s cricket.

Megan and Amy took over the bowling, with Amy getting out Lawrence LBW. Shepperton’s Kopicki and Lovett had a strong partnership, who both retired on 35. Katie held up one end with overs from Rosie, Alex and Charlotte from the other, with their final score being 115 for 3.

After a quick change over, Alex and Meg strode out to open the batting. Unfortunately good bowling caused Alex to snick an edge to slip after some great scoring shots.

Amy went in at No.3 and together with Meg attacked the bad ball and blocked the straight. Amy retired on 38 and Charlotte went in. Both Meg and Charlotte continued to punish the bad ball and with aggressive running between the wickets. Meg soon retired on 35 after one of her best ever innings for Stoke Molesey.

Rosie then went in at No.5 and maintained the necessary 6-an-over run rate. With the scores level Charlotte smashed a short ball for four seeing us over the line with an over to spare.

With keen keeping from Alex, committed fielding from Louise and Angelise throughout the match, it meant a complete team effort for our first win of the season.

Mark Packham adds:

WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY SUPERB PERFORMANCE YESTERDAY!!!

Well done Girls! As you know, I haven’t seen every game you have played by any means, but I suspect that may be the best performance of our young history.

The batting was brilliant as we only lost 1 wicket to reach the total of 116 with an over to go.

Our very young players Poppy and Ailsa looked like they had been in the team for years with Ailsa taking a brilliant catch at mid-on.

Thanks to Michaela who just fitted into the team beautifully, please pass on our thanks Amy.

All said and done there are things to work on, we will talk about them at our next session but you can bask in glory knowing you produced an outstanding performance.

“In our team we don’t do easy…we make easy happen through hard work and practice.”
