Under 10s Update

This weekend saw the start of our season, writes Mark Christie.

Unfortunately the weather caught us out on Sunday and our first League game was postponed away to Leatherhead.

Today the sun was out and the season could begin at the Esher Festival.

We played three games in our Group against Purley, Esher and Farnham.

First up were Purley. Winning the toss we put them into bat. A solid bowling performance saw us restrict them to 27 in the allotted seven overs. We comfortably knocked these off and the opening pair of Jaime and Archie put on a fantastic display of running between the wickets and stealing the quick single to get us off to a flying start.

The second game versus Esher. In this game – we finished second! I think I must have a short term memory problem as I can’t remember the scores. So, a note to me – write them down! That said we put up a solid performance and Esher had to fight hard to win.

Third game versus Farnham. This was the decider – if we won we progressed to the semi-finals. For the first time in the tournament we batted first. Farnham’s opening bowlers kept it tight in the first few overs limiting our opportunity to score but again a solid batting performance from all we achieved a respectable 40. So Farnham would have to bat well.

As we did in all the games everyone bowled well so the game ebbed and flowed. It was going to be tight for both teams. In the last over Farnham needed 6 to win. As we came to the last ball they needed two to win. The Farnham batsmen hit a glorious cover drive just missing the finger tips of our cover fielder. They had just nicked it but it was so so close.

Well done to all of the boys. Everyone contributed and it was great to get the season started.

The Squad : Jack, (led the team brilliantly), Jaime, Joshua, Daniel, Emaad, Louis, John, Archie, Maarten and George.
