3rd XI win at Long Ditton

Saturday 30th August 2014 – Friendly
Long Ditton 2nd XI 133 all out (38.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI 134 for 6 (25.3 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI won by 4 wickets

Good availability meant that Stoke were able to field an extra XI this week and our thanks go to Keith Medlycott and Dan Gluckman for managing a young side at Long Ditton, who invited Stoke to fill in after they lost their original league opposition.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat, but lost early wickets that were shared by Keegan Weideman, Ed Ashwell and Paddy Wilson, the latter returning figures of 8-1-21-2. Fin Deuchar also bowled a commendable four overs.

Substance was given to the total by Goodwin and Hoult who made 26 and 27 respectively, but both fell to Baz Medlycott who gobbled up another tail-ender to finish with 3 for 11 from 5.2 overs. Harry Ross, (2 for 16), collected two wickets in his final appearance of the season.

In reply Medlycott Jnr was an early departure, but Oliver John, (28), and Alastair Curran, (25), got the board moving. Both fell to a bowler called “Neely” – we don’t know which one as there were three of them in the side and no-one copied the book up correctly! – and Stoke were in a spot of bother when debutant Alex Nielsen, and Gluckman, both fell cheaply.

Ross proved the hero though, hitting 45 before his dismissal just short of the victory target; Ashwell and Wilson knocking off the remaining runs to complete a four wicket victory.
