Under 19s beaten by 1 run in 21:20

Wednesday 23rd July 2014
ECB U19 Club T20 Surrey NatWest U19 T20 – Group D
Normandy Knights 112 for 7 (21 overs?)
Stoke Slayers 111 for 7 (20 overs)
Normandy Knights won by 1 run

T20 cricket can scramble the minds and Stoke managed to lose this one from a position of dominance.

Having restricted Normandy to 112 in 20 overs, (or was it 21? – see below), Stoke were cruising after 43 from Giacomo Gray, and 28 from Baz Medlycott had Stoke 54 for 0 after nine overs; but a series of wickets fell all around Alastair Curran, (15), and Stoke fell short by one run.

Earlier in the piece all the Stoke bowlers did well, Max Subba Row, (4-0-14-0), Ben Holder, (3-0-15-1), being the pick. Billy Zander and Giacomo Gray also collected a wicket each.

We’re never a club to cry foul, and we wouldn’t have been able to win the group anyway having lost to Valley End, but the scanned image of the scorebook sent in to SDCC late last night shows that Normandy received 21 overs!

Stoke complete what has been an excellent tournament to have been invited to with a home match on Tuesday against Godalming. A big win could still see Stoke finish second in the group on net run rate. Please come down and support the team. Bar open!
