Stoke Molesey Ladies v Epsom Match Report

Sunday 20th July 2014
Women’s Surrey Trust League

Epsom Womens 1stt XI 92 for 6 (20 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies 93 for 1 (15.2 overs)
Stoke Molesey ladies won by 9 wickets

A resounding away victory by the Stoke Molesey team keeps up their one hundred per cent record in 2014.

Epsom elected to bat first on a cloudy Sunday morning at their delightful home turf, and they got off to a flyer with their skipper posting an undefeated thirty runs in an opening stand of 46.

Skipper Scott dominated “early doors” adding the majority of the runs in the opening stand although there were some extras too.

Stoke Molesey increased the pressure after the opening attack of Jenny and Katie gave way to Meg, Mollie and Skipper Amy who were able to exploit their skills against the middle and lower order Epsom batters.

Runs were scarce and the threatening big hitting of the Epsom number three never materialised.

Epsom completed their innings with some stout hitting but only managed a total of ninety-three which always threatened to be below par. Most of these runs were off the bat but there were a lot of extras, more than one per over across the innings.

In all six bowlers were used who took between them six wickets; two apiece by Amy and Megan . There was some splendid deep fielding by Fiona, Louise and Sue who were also well backed up by others out in the field. Three good catches were taken by Amy and keeper Emma.

That ninety-three was never going to be enough was amply demonstrated by the fluent stroke-play, from the off, by the Stoke Molesey captain Amy who eased to a comfortable thirty-five runs, (retired), showing judicious shot-selection and firm hitting when the opportunity arose.

Opening partner Megan shared a solid opening stand but fell to a good-length ball by DC. This then gave the chance for Katie to join the innings and with just under seventy runs required to win Katie formed two terrific partnerships, firstly with Amy and then Emma in a terrific individual batting performance.

Victory was sensed a long way out and anxious to impress Emma found both her form and judgment and supported Katie in a match-closing undefeated stand which saw victory in just 15.2 overs.
