2nd XI rained off after 11.5 overs

Surrey Championship Division 3 – 2nd XI competition
Maori Oxshott 2nd XI 23 for 4 (11.5 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI Did Not Bat
Match Abandoned

Frustration for Stoke’s league sides as the 1st and 2nd XI were both rained off after under an hour’s play.

At the Oxshott Village Sports Ground, Stoke won the toss and opening bowlers Gary Harkett and Ralph Coleman made inroads into the top order.

Coleman struck first when E.Nicolle was yorked, then former First Class player Jarrett was leg before for 5. Harkett took the third wicket in as many overs when Franz was bowled for a single, then Keith Watson evidenced a keen fielding display by throwing down the stumps to account for Hart who made the highest score of the innings, just 9.

Father and son combination P.Davies and J.Davies negotiated another four overs before umpire Sandy Henderson called for the covers towards the end of the twelfth. Possible solutions to keep overs in the game, eg.early tea, were put forward and implemented, but another deluge at 3.30pm left standing water on the square and the captains had no option but to shake hands and take a point each.

A result that neither side wanted as the home side continue to need games to recover from their mass player departure over the winter, and the visitors missed out on what looked like a morale boosting win ahead of the visit of league leaders Dorking next week.
