Captain bounced out by JT

No, not our James Trower, but we had a surprise guest at nets yesterday evening.

John Terry was walking the dog, (and later had a kick about on the Rec with his children and some of their friends), but couldn’t resist our invite to come and have a bowl after he kindly returned one of the practice balls to the middle.

Despite confessing to having not played any cricket since school, the results were encouraging.

After a stuttery run up, the action was fine. The first ball was a nice back of a length effort, Lahiri having no option but to play a forward defensive shot. Lahiri then traded places at the wicket with the Captain. After waiting in the queue for his next go JT had clearly spotted a chink in the Captain’s armoury. His next effort was a little quicker, and a bit shorter, startling the Captain into an emergency pull shot that went more vertical than horizontal.

Despite the Captain’s protestation that it would have been a six had the cage not been on the square, he was in a minority of one, the rest confident that it would have been caught inside the boundary.

So it was Terry 1 Gudgeon 0 and time to wish us well for the season and to get back to the aforementioned kick about.

Cheers for showing us your skills, John! You know where we are if you ever fancy a game!
