Stoke Molesey Ladies Win Again

Women’s Surrey Trust League
Sutton Women’s 1st XI 94 all out (30 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies 97 for 4 (15.1 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 6 wickets

Andy Page reports good news:

Due to fixture congestion the Stoke Molesey home game versus Sutton was played at Sutton who were very welcoming hosts. Sutton won the toss and elected to bat on a hot Sunday afternoon.

Charlotte Elworthy and Amy Salisbury opened the bowing for Stoke Molesey and immediately bowled great lines to the Sutton’s openers. Charlotte’s pace down the slope was extremely effective and she bowled her 6 overs for just seven runs.

As she contained, Amy returned excellent figures of 4 for 22 off her 6 overs. Change bowlers Katie and Louisa maintained the great work of the openers keeping the pressure on the Sutton batters with Katie taking 2 wickets.

Captain Rosie Weir’s left arm spin maintained the pressure on the Sutton batters who bowled great lines with no wides to take 3 for 12 off of her 6 overs. Special mention should also go to late call up Ellie Bradley who took 1 wicket in her first over for the Club.

The Stoke Molesey bowlers were well supported by a keen fielding effort with catches for Anya, Charlotte (2) and Emma. Sutton closed their innings on 94. Only Carolyn Brady was able to break the shackles of the Stoke Molesey attack to score a well-crafted 35 falling of the last ball of the Sutton innings.

Rosie and Louisa opened up our innings and Rosie got off to a great start with 2 classy 4s but then fell to a straight full toss. Louisa with her coach’s mantra of ‘block the straight one and hit the wide one’ fresh in her mind put together a very sensible 14 falling to a caught and bowled by Wright.

Katie hit a lovely four before falling to a straight ball. Charlotte came in and batted very sensibly when some hard hitting of the wide ball to score 24 before falling to a caught and bowled after being deceived by a slower ball.

Amy and Emma saw us over the line in the 16th over.

The match continued to give everyone practice. Amy batted very sensibly to retire on 22.

Phoebe had her first bat in a match for a couple of seasons and Anya batted very sensibly, retiring unselfishly on 14 to give Ellie, Sue and loan player Alex time in the middle.

Special thanks to our hosts, Louisa and Louise for arranging the teas, Chris for scoring and Andy Berry for helping out with the Umpiring. Next Saturday Stoke Molesey host Guildford at the Stoke Recreation Ground.
