Narrow and tense win for the Stoke Molesey Ladies

Sunday 15th June 2014
Surrey Trust League Surrey Women – Premiership
Stoke Molesey Ladies 86 all out
Ashford Ladies 83 for 7
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 3 runs

Ashford won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Megan Kapadia, (27), and Rosie Weir, (25), batted steadily to give the side a secure base on which to build. However it was not to be as Ashford, through good accurate bowling by Taylor, Manyer, and Brown, coupled with variable bounce and tight fielding, kept the Stoke Molesey total to a disappointing 86 all out.

The home side took to the field knowing that accuracy and early wickets, were required. Charlotte Elworthy and Rosie Weir kept to the brief and the pressure was kept on the Ashford batters, only relieved by some positive batting by Southey, (12), and Butler’s, (18), in the middle order.

Fortunately, after they were out the pressure returned and the Ashford side struggled to make the runs, finishing their innings 3 runs short of the Stoke Molesey total for 7 wickets down.

Special mention needs to be made of the final three bowlers, Katie Sutherland, Amy Page (capt) and Rosie Weir, who maintained their accuracy through the tense final 10 overs.

The game was probably easier to play in than watch(!) but the result shows the Ladies have developed a really good team sprit and a winning attitude. Well done to all.
