Most of the reports are in from the weekend and here is what we have so far. This week we have a rare instance of reporting more losses than wins, but the Under 10s had a great win and there was a display of power-hitting from one of our Under 15s…

Under 12s
Mid-Surrey Colts League U12 League
Stoke D’Abernon U12 86 for 7 (20 overs)
Spencer U12 87 for 3 (18.1 overs)
Spencer U12 won by 7 wickets
Report from Johnny Lawes:
“A home game for Stoke. We were set up on the strip closer to the clubhouse which has slightly lower bounce. Spencer won the toss and put us in to bat. A cloudy morning with intermittent drizzle, we got off to a very slow start again against one of the better bowler line-ups we have faced.
Bowler rotation allowed us to improve the scoring rate with Toby going on to score 18 and Ollie coming in to make 22 with three fours through the middle of the innings. Utkarsh also made a valuable quick fire 11 in the last overs.
We managed 86 runs and critically Spencer did not bowl a single wide or no ball, which kept our score low. Spencer were reliant on two very good bowlers who together bowled 8 overs taking 4 wickets for 12 runs.
Our bowling got off to a good start with Rory and Ben containing runs and Ben getting two wickets.
We went on to bowl 9 of our players which is a tribute to our depth of bowling without anyone recording poor numbers, but overall extras of 5 wides and 3 no-balls gifting runs to the opposition chasing a moderate target was ultimately decisive.
Jamie B was unlucky having gone for only 1 run in his first two overs to then concede runs in his third with Spencer’s star batsman now having his eye in and reaching his retirement score of 38 and taking the match away from us in the 17th over. If we had got their No.2 batter out early and avoided some extras we could have won.
Once again an enjoyable game that was competitive for the most part and played in good spirit.”

Under 15s
Mid-Surrey Colts League Under 15 League
Stoke D’Abernon U15 144 all out (21 overs)
Ashtead U15 145 for 0 (22.2 overs)
Ashtead U15 won by 10 wickets
News of a defeat, but an amazing individual performance, for/in the Under 15 sections. Rod Thomson sets the scene…
“…Local residents of Headley Village were yesterday abruptly woken from their Sunday morning slumbers by an extraordinary meteorological event. Crowds of lycra-clad cyclists dismounted from their saddles to watch this remarkable spectacle, and local aircraft were advised to give the Headley Cricket Club ground a wide berth.
The Ashtead skipper had won the toss and chosen to put Stoke into bat on a strip of little consistency, and his decision seemed to have paid off when we were reduced to 4 for 4 by the first ball of the fifth over. But the climate underwent a dramatic transformation when Charlie Kerslake entered the fray and put willow to leather in truly impressive style. Whilst wickets continued to fall around him, Kerslake hit his 60 runs off just 27 balls with seven 4s and two 6s including one which was still rising as it flew over a large conifer some 30 metres beyond the mid-wicket boundary.
When Charlie left the arena for a well-earned retirement break, Ollie John and Jack Rustom together took the score up to 111 when both the latter and no.11 Ben Howe quickly lost their wickets. Kerslake then re-entered the game with another 6 off his first ball, and 30 runs off just 15 balls, to finish with a personal score of 90 and a very respectable team total of 144 all out. His innings consisted of four 6s and nine 4s and represented a strike rate of 214%, but most important of all it seemed to give us a fighting chance of beating our local foes…
Unfortunately our fairy tale ending never materialised and, although Ashtead made a slow start in the first few overs, the opening Ashtead batsmen confidently took on the Stoke bowling attack without really offering any chances. Opener Banj Moore once again bowled really tightly, conceding just 8 runs from his allocated 4 overs, but otherwise our bowlers lacked variety and tended to bowl too short and wide to a talented opening pair. The fielding was mostly good, but the poor surface inevitably led to some mis-fields and a good few byes.
Congratulations to Charlie on his batting performance, but a shame that we were unable to apply more pressure on the opposition batting line-up, who reached the required total in the 23rd over without losing any wickets.”

Under 11s
Sad news has always reaches us that the Under 11s have been knocked out of the Mid-Surrey Colts League Under 11 Quarter Final, posting 89 all out in 19.3 overs, only for Sheen Park to knock the runs off for the loss of 5 wickets in 17.4 overs.
