Carel cracks 85 as Sunday XI win big again

Sunday 15th June 2014 – Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 247 for 5 declared (40 overs)
Concorde 118 all out (29.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 129 runs

Another big win for Stoke’s Sunday XI as they piled on the runs against Concorde, then took just 29.2 overs to complete the win.

Stephen Anderson smashed 49 off 35 with six fours and two sixes having been dropped first ball; Nico Spreeth, (20), and Rod Thomson, (24), also helped keep the scoring rate at or near a run-a-ball.

However the start of the show was Carel Ferreira. In just his fourth appearance for the club with a highest score of 19 up this point, he made an unbeaten 85 with ten fours and two sixes; completing his maiden half-century from 47 balls, then taking just 14 balls to score his last 32. Moumer Khara joined him in a boundary hitting competition, added a quickfire 23 to prompt an early declaration.

After tea, Richie Parrett struck in his first over, bowling Fernandes for a duck. Keegan Weideman and Zaki Ahmad provided good support, the former unlucky to see a slip chance go to ground.

Ralph Coleman also saw a slip chance grassed, but did take two wickets courtesy of an outside edge and one that nipped back through the gate to iron out a few problems from the previous day.

56 for 3, and it was time for the spinners. Baz Medlycott, (4 for 38) took the next four wickets to fall; two bowled, one successful leg-before appeal and one courtesy ridiculous one-handed catch over his head by Khara. Nico Spreeth, (2 for 16), took the final two wickets, (the last man unable to bat due to injury), to close the innings on 118.

Only visiting captain Wright, (27 not out), offered any real resistance as extras top-scored with 34.

Next week, a number of familiar faces to the Stoke membership will be in the opposition as Wisley travel to the Rec.
