3rd XI beat Normandy

3rd XI Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI 128 all out (31 overs)
Normandy 77 all out (32 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI won by 51 runs

Good availability meant that Stoke were able to field an additional Saturday XI, and welcomed Normandy to their new second ground in Effingham.

Keith Watson, (45), banked some useful runs, and Alastair Curran was his usual organised self, hitting 33.

Stoke lost wickets regularly and also caught ‘not batting the overs-itis’ falling to 128 all out in just the 31st over, Harry Ross, (12), being the only other player to make double figures.

In reply, Gary Harkett, (1 for 26), dismissed Collyer; but P.Harris, (23), and Job, (13), started to chip away at the target.

Stoke’s change bowlers did the business, though. Promising youngster Ed Ashwell, (5-1-13-3), and Stephen Anderson, (4-2-2-2), ripped the heart out of the middle order. No other player made double figures as Curran, (career best figures of 4-0-6-3), polished off the tail to close the innings on 77 after 32 overs and complete a 51 run win.

Thanks to a lot of people for making this happen; the players for making themselves available, Jo Patrick for assembling an equipment kit and for making additional teas, and to Peter Phipps for managing the side on the day.

We are looking to play more regular 3rd XI cricket, so please spread the word that players of all abilities are being sought, and to e-mail stokecc@hotmail.com if you are interested in joining.
