Will Frost pushes for 1st XI recall as Academy defeat Horley

Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 209 all out (40 overs)
Horley 171 all out (36.3 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 38 runs

Drew Patrick reports…

Stoke batted first on a slow wicket.

It was difficult to get the ball off the square and a total of 209 looked pretty competitive. Dan Douthwaite scored a brisk 46, Lian Meyer a cautious but necessary 30, (in the context of the game.) Jack Raimondo came in at No.8 with six overs to go and scored a rapid fire 26, ably supported by Hugo Solway with 18.

Horley got off to a flyer but brilliant on-field leadership from the wily Keith Medlycott ensured that the screws were well and truly tightened in the middle third of the game; rotating bowlers and fielders to slow things down, the net effect of which was confusing to the opposition batsmen.

He also held two sharp catches, the second of which was off his son’s bowling. Will Frost made a great comeback and finished with 3 for 16. Solway was wayward in his first spell but came back to take 3 wickets for 43. The pick of the rest was Nico Spreeth with 2 for 35.

Horley were bowled out for 171, giving Stoke a victory margin of 38 runs and momentum ahead of their penultimate zonal match against Farncombe.
