Women’s Surrey Trust League
Stoke Molesey Ladies 159 for 3 (25 overs)
Reigate Priory 128 for 5 (25 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 31 runs

A win for the girls as Rosie Weir reports…

On Sunday 30th June we played a very successful Surrey Trust League game against Reigate Priory in the blazing hot sun. Having won the toss, Amy Page, our captain, decided to bat first.

Amy opened the batting with Rosie, together getting the team off to a great start by scoring a partnership of 24 runs in the first 5 overs, until Rosie was out lbw.

Next in, was Alex, who scored an excellent 32 with some powerful hitting and was only overtaken by Amy herself. Amy batted very well, getting the highest score of 45, before dutifully retiring. The total runs for their partnership was 75.

Our next batswoman was Charlotte Elworthy, who hit an exquisite 4, which bounced over the boundary rope. The final two batters were Amy Salisbury and Katie Sutherland, who both scored even more runs, and batted until the end of our 25 overs with Amy S scoring 7 and Katie 5, with them surviving a run out chance off the last ball when the stumps were hit firmly but the bails stayed on.

The final score for our innings was 159 for 3, an outstanding score built on a series of good partnerships.

After a quick change, the team headed out onto the field. Opening the bowling were Charlotte and Rosie, who in their total of 6 overs together only let Reigate Priory score 26 runs for 1 wicket, bowled by Rosie.

The next bowler was Amy Salisbury, who had excellent figures of 2 for 14 off 5 overs. This meant that she gained an average score of 7 runs per wicket. Well done Amy!

But, the end was not yet in sight. Reigate’s Surrey U17 Jess Whitcher, had soon racked up 31 runs on the scoreboard. Their run rate seemed to be creeping up, despite Katie and Amy Page bowling quality line and length balls. It seemed that she could hit anything.

Luckily, we had Molly on the team. Molly bowled three impressive overs, and her wicket of Jess was one of the key points which helped us to win. Our faithful captain Amy Page took an exceptional catch, sealing the win.

In the last 4 overs, thanks to more bowling from Molly and Olivia’s good 3 over spell, Reigate only scored a further 18 runs to end on 128-5.

The game also would not have ended in a victory without Jane and Rachael’s excellent fielding. Thanks to them sprinting from boundary to boundary, countless fours were stopped.

It was a really good team effort in the field by everyone.

Overall this was an excellent win, by 31 runs. All of the players played a vital role in the success of the team.
