Under 11s knock Dorking out of the Cup

Good news from Danny Broomfield, our Under 11s manager who writes…

We finally completed our first match of the season against Dorking in the West Surrey Youth Cricket League Cup.

On a cold, damp and gloomy evening we won the toss and elected to bat. It was a difficult night for batting on the astro at Stoke and 4s were rare. I was pleased with the way the boys built the innings, with 1s and 2s ticking over on the score board. Charlie N top scored and was ably supported by the rest of the team. We end on 95 for 6.

A quick turnaround resulted in our bowlers coming out all guns blazing, Oscar J, although struggling to find his length at the beginning, (nearly decapitating their opening batsman), took two early wickets and with Ryan also taking two good wickets we soon were in total control.

At 25 for 5 it looked like an early finish but Dorking dug deep and staged a courageous fightback; only losing one more wicket before falling short, finishing on 83 for 6. Tight bowling from Daniel P – two overs for one run – ensured victory on a cold night.

My apologies to the boys not playing this weekend; the weather ensuring we had two cup matches in a row.

Sunday’s game is against Spencer, a team overloaded with district players, so possibly our toughest game of the season.

Next Sunday we have two matches, so we will need assistance with the GC game.

Training is on Tuesday as usual.
