Mike Dixon reports….

The first round of the ECB U13 National Cup saw us pitted against Ashtead, a side we had not beaten for three years.

In rare bright and sunny conditions Stoke batted first and the loss of an early wicket brought Alastair to the crease to join Max. These two formed an excellent partnership, both of them retiring on 33, with Alastair finishing with two big consecutive sixes.

The remaining batsmen continued to push the score on, finally setting a tough target of 126 for the opposition to win. When we took to the field a fiery opening over from Xani set the tone and immediately put Ashtead on the back foot.

Then came the key bowling performances from Billy and Ben, who between them delivered 7 consecutive overs of superb offspin, allowing the batsmen just 14 runs. Well backed up by the rest of the bowlers the team finally shut Ashtead down to just 75 from their 20 overs.

A great win and most importantly contributions from every member of the team, well done boys.
